Since retiring from many years teaching history at San Francisco State University, photographer Rodger C. Birt has been an occasional conductor of streetcar tours of the byside city where he lives with his wife and daughter, and showing his work in SF galleries. Featured here are selections from the black and white and color portfolios.

"I want to present groups of photographs to the viewers," said Birt in an April 2010 interview with Danielle Wolfe, "not a random selection. The black and white portfolios are representative examples from the three longest and most demanding ‘assignments' I have undertaken, Indianapolis, Indiana ("Waking Up in Naptown"); San Francisco, California (‘Remembering the Alamo Square'); and black and white studies of form, shape, and texture (‘American Studies')."

All these works and many more works are available for further viewing in larger format and purchase at Rodger Birt Photography.
