Lené Gary lives in Montpelier, Vermont and is completing her MFA in Creative Writing at Vermont College of Fine Arts. Her recent awards include First Place, Second Place and Honorable Mention in the Poetry Society of New Hampshire’s National Poetry Contest; Honorable Mention, California Institute of Arts and Letters; and Best Overall, KNOCK Ecolit Contest. Her recent and forthcoming publications include Watershed, SAGE, Connotation Press, Silkworm, Crash, Grandmother Earth, Vermont Nature, KNOCK, The Poet’s Touchstone, and M Review. When she’s not writing, she can be found paddling her well-worn, Mad River canoe. |

This is a sampling of the variety of work I write and publish. Thanks for taking a look. :) -lené "Mercury in Our Mountains: Another Reason to Get Serious About Acid Deposition" An article about mercury--despite its 2005 publication, it is still quite relevant and a significant passion of mine. A little dark-humor never hurts when it comes to environmental issues and writing. This essay won best overall in the KNOCK Ecolit and Green Art Contest 2006. This poem (which you may have to click through the site to find--it appears there is no direct link to the page) won the 2007 M Review Writing Contest for poetry. "An Amble Along the North Branch" This nature essay about really seeing birds for the first time also includes a photograph I took of a black-capped chickadee. My poem, "This June Without You," which won first place in the Poetry Society of New Hampshire's National Contest, November 2007, is included in my good friend Greg Seitz's chapbook of stories, reflections, and poetry celebrating Minnesota's woods and water, Esker Volume 1 Issue 1. Connotation Press, Issue III, Vol. I: November 2009 -- find five poems of mine (including prose poetry) featured in this issue. |
